Testosterone Cypionate: Description
From a structural and chemical standpoint, the active part of Testosterone Cypionate is no different from the natural hormone that humans produce every day. The only discrepancy here is that the former was manufactured in a lab instead that from an organ. It diverges in a significant way from its natural counterpart where the attached chemical water is concerned, namely, the ‘Cypionate’ part.
An ester is basically a chemical delivery agent that determines over which timespan the attached primary drug, in this case testosterone, is released into the body to exert its effects. With regard to this delivery agent, while normal testosterone would only last a few hours, attaching the Cypionate water onto it allows its effects to occur over a 16-day period, with an 8-day half-life.
This is done after the item is administered and it is stored in the fat cells of the body, with it slowly being released in line with the steroid hormone’s 8-carbon structure.
The benefits of this longer and more gradual acting form is discussed below.
There are three popular forms of steroid testosterone:
- Testosterone Propionate
- Testosterone Enanthate
- Testosterone Cypionate
It is important to keep in mind that, as alluded above, no matter what form you choose, the overall impact on the body will be the same. What will differ is the timeframe over which these effects take place, with Cypionate being the longest, followed by Enanthate, with a 4 to 5-day half-life, followed by Propionate, with a 2-day half-life.
This means that a recreational or competitive user of testosterone would need to administer the Cypionate version far less frequently, in order to maintain maximal levels in the body. This could be beneficial for beginners or those susceptible to problems like injection related soreness or injection site infection.
The gradual and slow-acting nature of Testosterone Cypionate means you’ll generally find it in programs where the overall goal is a gradual buildup of mass. This can sometimes have an emphasis on efficient mass accrual or just a large magnitude of mass and strength gains regardless of efficiency.
These programs are also usually relatively long in length, lasting anywhere from 12 weeks all the way up to a year.
As mentioned above, this version of testosterone can be used in both efficient and inefficient programs focused on mass gain. The primary factor that will decide which it is would be the other chemicals being taken in tandem with it.
This is because Testosterone Cypionate is rarely used on its own, particularly by seasoned anabolic users.
For example, more efficient programs could include the use of agents like Trenbolone, Winstrol or Masteron. Meanwhile, less efficient, but more potent, programs for mass gain, may include anabolics like Boldenone, Nandrolone, or Dianabol.
In general, the former programs are shorter in length, generally approaching competitions or shows, while the latter is generally longer.
Due to individual sensitivity to the drugs effects, aspects like gender and prior use of anabolics and their effect on the body and subsequent anabolic use (e.g. more seasoned users of anabolics would develop more androgen receptors in their body, necessitating higher doses for the same relative effect), there is normally no universal dose for recreational or competitive users of testosterone.
However, commonly reported amounts would include 200 to 500 milligrams for beginner users and up to 1000 to 2000 milligrams for more seasoned users, taken weekly. These dose ranges would also be intended for male users too.
In general, female users are recommended to avoid its use, due to virilizing effects included therein. But, despite this, some women still take the risk. It is nevertheless still not advised and not recommended.
Due to its solution and the way in which it is metabolized in the body, testosterone would be injected intramuscularly, normally through easy-access and popular sites like the side of the shoulder, in the lateral deltoid, or in the buttocks, in the gluteal muscles. These sites would generally be rotated regularly, to prevent issues like injection site infection and excessive soreness.
As mentioned previously, the long-lasting nature of the Cypionate form of this agent means that maximal levels can be achieved by an intramuscular administration once per week. This should always be done with sterile equipment and under medical supervision.
While there are a number of obvious benefits to the use of testosterone in competitive and recreational settings, there are a number of potential drawbacks that should be considered in tandem with these perks when one is considering its purchase and use.
These involve issues like:
- Cardiovascular related problems and increase in the risk of experiencing a cardiovascular event like a cardiac arrest or stroke, through a rise in arterial stiffness, LDL or “unhealthy” cholesterol levels, and an increase in both heart size and blood pressure.
- Androgenic problems, which would include skin issues, such as bouts of oily skin and the possible presentation of acne, and even accelerated rates of balding in men at risk of it genetically. For female users, there is also the risk of virilizing effects such as a change in facial structure, enlargement of the clitoris and vocal chords, leading to a deeper voice, and accelerated hair growth in the body and face.
- Estrogenic issues such as fluid retention and an increase in adipose tissue storage. For men, there is also the risk of developing excessive tissue around the breasts, known as gynecomastia.
- Issues affecting the hypothalamic-pituitary axis of the brain, such as a decrease or cessation in endogenous testosterone manufacturing, which can persist for a time after exogenous use has stopped, necessitating a Post Cycle Therapy regime to help recover endogenous levels back up to normal as fast as possible.
It should be noted that some of the above-mentioned issues can be managed, such as the estrogen-mediated effects with SERMs or Aromatase Inhibitors, and some of the androgenic events with a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor. However, these chemicals also come with their benefits and drawbacks, which will need to be reviewed before use.
